If you enjoy something, you can learn a lot

Guus joined Ewals in 2019 as a management trainee after studying Business Administration. Ewals quickly recognized his potential and, after just five months, offered him a challenging assignment at the Kiefersfelden office. He then moved into a demanding role within the freight forwarding engineering team. “It was a leap into the unknown, but I’m glad I got the opportunity - and that I took it.”
A leap into the unknown
“My passion lies mainly in analysis, mapping out business processes, and improving them.”
Guus was able to pursue this passion in a responsible role within a complex ERP operation. Bold, but definitely interesting. “I was the advisor, trainer, and go-to person for Ewals-colleagues. Sometimes it was quite hectic, but never boring. I also spent a lot of time in our international offices. It was an amazing period, and I learned a great deal.”
Continuous learning
“I’m currently working as a project manager, but I’m also involved as a technical engineer in the same project. That combination suits me well. A three-day management course within the Management & Leadership program helped me grow in leading colleagues.”
“I work a lot with ICT. And no, I’m not an IT specialist—but you do need to understand it to do what I do. If you enjoy something, you can learn a lot. And that’s exactly what Ewals is all about: "Tell us what you want to learn, and we’ll support you!’ Everything is possible.”
Ewals was his first employer in 2019, and it turned out to be a great match.
“Because I’ve been able to do so many different things, it doesn’t feel like I’ve been working for the same employer all this time. And we’re not done yet. Since this year, I’ve been leading two other engineers. Ewals and I openly discuss my growth path, and I receive the guidance and training I need to become even more confident in certain areas.”
Work-life balance
Let’s ask an honest question, Guus. You’re in your early thirties - there’s more to life than work, right? How do you manage that? “I love my job and I find it important. I don’t mind working an extra hour when needed. But it’s balanced, because Ewals is also flexible when I want to leave an hour early for a tennis tournament in the evening. My job at Ewals fits well with my lifestyle.”
